| Continuing from previous page http://www.chephrenrepairs.com/BT Yahoo Broadband Connnection.htm Everything was connected correctly and in fact the Router was connected to the computer with a Yellow Cable which is a standard wired Network Cable into the Network port on the Computers motherboard. The Router had power and thus was plugged in to the mains. The wire from the router to the splitter was plugged in correctly. There were lights on the Router but no one home. The Problem: When You try to connect to BT Yahoo by putting in their web address what happens is that you see A Web page that Says Access is Denied. you an not connect. but why.... The Solution: The Hardware was all plugged in correctly, and if you remember the new BT Voyager 2091 Wireless ADSL Modem Router came with installation Software. You have to first remember your user Name and Password that you had when you last connected to Yahoo, You have to also remember your phone number, then you run the Software that came with the New Wireless Router, It is on a CD Rom. You will have to type in your user name and your password and you telephone number at the points where you are asked for this . Background You Need to Know: You can of course simply establish whether or not there is connection from the Computer to the Router. This can be done by going to Start | run | cmd and press Return. A black box opens. This is the Command Prompt. Now all you want to do is to ping the router. The router address is very likely to be 192.168.2.1 so all you do is type in ping 192.168.2.1 You should cause the computer to send 4 packets of data out to that address and you will see something telling you if the packets got there and if four more were sent back to you. This worked on the customer site so I knew there was connection to the router via the Yellow Network cable. The ADSL Router and the computer are connected together via a normal network cable. The other thing to establish is whether or not the Router has leased out an ip address to the computer. Normally the Router will give the first computer that connects to the Router the following address 192.168.2.1, but how do you know that this has happened....Well difficult unless you know how to use the command ipconfig.. A Computer will have an ip address which is internally generated (if the router has not leased one out to the computer.), or if the Router is switched of it may just say Media State ....................Media Disconnected: How to use Ipconfig.: This is another command you can type into the Command interface --- remember Start | Run | cmd and press return. In fact is is better to type in ipconfig /all ( make sure there is a space between the letter g and the / Make sure you do press the return key on the keyboard once you have typed in the command ipconfig /all.) All you are looking for is Ethernet Adapter ip address and a number. ( Remember we are not connected wirelessly, we could be and if we were you would see something like Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection:and beneath this an ip address.) See this article About windows networking, but scroll down to find the automatically generated windows ip address If the computer has an ip address 192.168.2.2. then it has got this from the Router and you have connection to the router. if the ip address is starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then most likely the computer has given itself an ip address and not got one from the Router. THE REason why we were getting the screen Access is denied is simply that you must run the CD Rom supplied with the Voyager Wireless ADSL Router. You should connect everything up including the ADSL Voyager Router, the Power Supply to the Router, the Router to Computer Cable and the Cable from the Router to the splitter, plus your Splitter and your phone, and then Run the CD Rom in your CD Rom Drive on your Computer.
