How do you get your new Vista Lap Top Computer to print to your printer that is on a Network with Windows XP Computers in it!!

This is on the face of it just a simple matter or installing a printer on your Vista lap top and off you go.... but allas it is not that simple... in this page we explain how to get things working and also why Vista may well refuse to connect to your printer!...

Look you would think that if you have a wireless network with a printer attached to one of the computers on that network, then provided you are on the same wireless network that printing to that printer would be simple.... well it only is if you know what you are doing!! Basically if the computer that the printer is connected to is on running Windows XP Home or XP Professional then the Vista machine may just simply say that access to the printer is denied.

Why O Why can I not connected to the printer that is connected to the Windows XP computer that has the printer connected to it :on the Wireless Network that I am on?

What makes things worse is that this problem is not caused by you not having the right printer driver generally: since its fairly true that Windows Vista ships with a fair number of printer drivers already there and ready to use...So what the blinking heck is going on.... well put simply you need to get Windows Vista to think that the printer is connected to the Vista Lap Top as a local printer..... Her Hum mmm well here comes a computer hardware lesson.. in the old days when Women were Ladies and Men were Gentlemen, connecting a computer to your printer involved conecting it to LPT1: this is the main parallel printer port of a computer, via of course a parallel printer cable.  Ok... so what's the point, well a locally connected printer is normally connected to a physical actual port on the computer you are using... hence LPT1: but it is possible to get Vista to think that this printer you are trying to connect to is actually connected to a local port even if it isn't really...

In setting up the printer.. or in fact going through the printer installation procedure you need to make the correct choices to make Vista connect to the printer.

You can probably remember if you are old as the hills in computing terms!? How to install a printer in NT 3.51 or NT 4.0 or even Windows 98 or Windows 95 or even windows 3.11 or even Windows version 2, there must of been a version 2 if there was a version 3.....!!!... look... if you have your new Vista Laptop booted and it is on the wi-fi network, then you can as in days of old open up the control panel and find the printers icon... with me so far .. and you may see some printers there, ordinarily you can right click the mouse and choose install printer, and you see a dialog box, that says,  once you say you want a network printer: do you want an existing printer port of which it shows you lots or do you want  to add a port, yes you do, what you need to do is to choose add port and choose local port, a little dialog box will open up, asking what is the share name of the printer...Ok I told a fib it actually uses diffrent words from that, but it is the share name you need...

At this pont you need the share name,,, you should have made a noter of this pror to getting to this point. we went down the pub to continue writing this page, and we just turned on the lap top, fired up the internal Wi-i card asked our software to scan for any available networks and found lots, quickly I zeroed in on one called belkin54g, and within seconds I was connected with an ip address of 192.168.2.10 . I tested the speed of connection and was getting 2Meg a bits per second  The ISP is was Virgin Media. I thought I could launch Armageddon from here easily, how would any one know I was there.... Ok This is of course illegal, so I only did this hypothetically, because we do not break the law at chephrenrepairs.com. Look, there are tones of people up and down the country that have completely unprotected wireless networks that are working night and day broadcasting their net work name; hence it is reasonable to zero in on a network called belkin54g or one called netgear or one called any common router manufacturer you would like to mention....

Of course we could not fit every thing we know about computers and computing on a pin head!!? If you want someone or a company local to Reading and Wokingham. to help you set up and secure you wireless network and perhaps fix that old PC for a price that its less then you think then you should ring up Chephrenrepairs.com.
