Here on this page we have an image taken with a digital camera that is 1536 x 2048, all i've done is got it off the camera and rotated it 90 degrees clock wise, the original image was 818KB You can see that this image is now getting quite big. Of course in real web design you always have a choice, you may shoot pictures of higher quality and then cut parts out of them in fireworks or paint shop pro or photo shop and place the cut down version on to the web page. alternatively, you can shoot pictures of lower quality and then cut them down less. What you should never do is to import or manipulate an image inside dream weaver, by stretching it expanding or shrinking it as this will produce truly terrible results. Instead get the image into fireworks or paint shop pro and resize it here maintainig the aspect ratio of course. Then save the image with a new name, then place the image on the web page.

So where are we going with this, well eventually we want to produce an event manager for Headwaythamesvalley.org, that stores records in a database that is of course a My SQL database. But, we want at least one picture associated with each record. How are we going to do that, that is the question!? The pictrure on this page is so enormous that you do need a fairly fast broadband connection to down load it, plus on a fairly large monitor you can only see the bottom and right edges of the picture by using the scroll bars!
