Books on Fireworks MX are written back to front, You need to understand a few basic facts right from the start -A pdf fact sheet for you to download and keep is being written now, and will be found at the bottom of this page> 5 Aug 2006 4:23pm.

Fireworks Saves work as .png formatted files, to get something useful you need to Export the work.

You need to understand that fireworks only saves things or work or what you do as .png files, that's fine but do not expect to see a massive list of different file type you can save you graphics as because you won't. This is no problem because as you will see from this page it is not saving your work that will ultimately get your lovely images to your customer it is Exporting it!!! . Remember this phrase.. tattoo it on your bottom or head or write it on your car windscreen ... " When using fireworks I like to export slices of cake"

Export the work as Images and HTML

In order for you to display you art work on a Web page you should firstly construct you artwork using Fireworks, more about that latter, then save it, but, most importantly, you need to export the files created in Fireworks to the correct place on your web site... The correct place is nearly always your Images Folder called, surprisingly, Images, found in the root of your Web Server. When you choose the File Export menu, you can leave the default setting for "save as type" at HTML and Images. When you press "save" you are in effect exporting a file ending in .htm which is effectively a web page and a load of other files that make up the elements of your work This is confusing for many newcomers to fireworks. Why? For many reasons, firstly why, if you have a fireworks document made up of several slices, does the export option create loads of files with funny names like banner1_r1_c1.gif. All will become clear on other pages at http://www.chephrenrepairs.com, at the moment just remember that exporting the work to your images folder on your web site will work and that you will have to open up Dream Weaver, create a very basic html page, and then somehow get your art work into that web page. We explain that very shortly. or see here

Resize Images, Place in Fireworks, Get the overall size good for your Intended Screen Resolution

When you first start out using Fireworks, you may have many images on you digital camera and on CDs and DVD's and goodness knows where that you want to put on web pages, but you must master some basic skills before you start putting these on web pages on the web. These skills are i). learn how to resize the images so they are not too big ii). learn how to place these images into fireworks, iii) learn how to make sure that the overall fireworks image will be right for the screen you expect it to display on iv) take things slowly at first, because perfecting these skills will take time and effort and there is no way you will learn everything all at once so do not try to: you will get feed up and confused and generally peed off!

"Learning things in Theory is usually easier than learning things in Practice, but in Practice it isn't."
